Today, Pine Island hosted its first-ever regional student peer support leadership event. Nearly 100 students from five different schools came together for a day focused on connection, leadership, and supporting mental health in their schools.
Hope Squad advisors Tom Horner and Cait Carr organized the event alongside Jen Hegge from Aidan’s Light, who generously sponsored lunch for all.
Throughout the day, students built connections with peers from other schools, shared ideas in breakout sessions, listened to meaningful stories, and reflected on how they can continue showing up for others in their own buildings.
Proud of all of these students and advisors who are putting hope into action!

Treasures, trash, and so many dog poop bags were collected.
Did you know: Dog poop bags only prevent water pollution, spread of pathogens, and environmental hazards if disposed of in a trash bin. The city has done a great job of providing bags at local parks and trails. It is the dog owners responsibility to dispose of them in a trash can.

The recognition is awarded for a three-year term, and we are (to my knowledge) currently the only school in Minnesota with the distinction.

Responsible for overseeing the setting up of activities as needed
Be familiar with & observe OSHA & other safety regulations
Order custodial supplies as needed
Transports & delivers educational materials & supplies as needed
Conducts routine health & safety inspections (emergency eyewash stations, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, elevators)
Be responsible to a flexible schedule as it relates to the needs of the district
Be responsible for emergency call backs as needed
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Buildings & Grounds Director
