The Panthers won the first two games and then dropped a 10-8 game to Owatonna
to finish in second place. PI opened the tournament with a 5-4 win over Simley.
Most of the action for the Panthers came in the fifth inning. Taylor Bates led
things off by reaching base on an error. After singles by Bruche Miller and Alison
Newton, Katie Thein hit a blast that reached the centerfield fence and she cleared
the bases with a three run, inside the park homerun. Kaitlyn Campbell picked up
the win with relief help from Miller in the seventh. The bats came alive in the
second game, as the Panthers racked up 17 hits in a 16-2 win over Albert Lea.
Brenna Lien, Sarah Lenn, Kamyn Peterson-Rucker, Shelby Kann, Courtney Pahl, and
Katie Thein had multiple hit games. Bruche Miller recorded the win while Alison
Newton finished the game by pitching the last inning. Peterson-Rucker hit a homerun
in the first inning to drive in three. In the championship game PI jumped out
to an 8-3 lead after three innings, but Owatonna stormed back to take the lead
in the fifth when they plated five runs. Bruche Miller started the game, and Kaitlyn
Campbell pitched the final 2 2/3 innings. Courtney Pahl, Katie Thein, and Alison
Newton were named to the all-tournament team. The Panthers play three games this
week. Tuesday night they travel to Houston, Thursday night they host Lake City,
and Friday night St. Charles comes to town. - The Pine Island Varsity Baseball

| - Amber Buck and
Nate Simon -- please see Ms. Thompson ASAP! - - The varsity baseball team
recovered from a disappointing sweep by Rochester Lourdes last Friday, and assured
themselves of at least a share of third place in the Blue Division of the Hiawatha

Pine Island Panther varsity softball team rebounded from two disappointing losses
to Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Rochester Lourdes last week with an inspiring 3-2 extra
inning win over Kenyon Wanamingo Tuesday night. Shelby Kann scored the go ahead

single up the middle. Sarah Lenn pushed Kann to second on with a beautiful bunt,
and Cede Finstuen moved Kann to third with another bunt single. Bruche Miller

then went to the mound and shut down the Knights in order in the bottom half of
the inning, striking out the final batter. Alison Newton started the game for
PI, pitching five strong innings while giving up four hits and striking out 8.
Miller relieved Newton in the sixth, pitched her way out of a jam, and went the
final four innings giving up one hit and striking out five. Newton and Kann each

Throughout the twilight hours of spring and summer, Minnesota's frogs and toads
can be heard calling from our ponds and wetlands. But can you identify who is
calling by the sounds you hear? If you are interested in learning about the frogs
and toads native to Minnesota, stop by Ms. Schimek's room to learn more about
how you can become one of the few how can differentiate between the calls Spring
Peeper, the Chorus Frog, the Northern Leopard Frog, Green Frog, American Toad,
and others! - The weather is warming up. Please review the dress code for
High School students: The district wants the dress code to help bring a level
of appearance that supports and also advances Pine Island's high standards of
achievement in other areas. They believe that the dress code is an important part
of helping students learn how to express themselves appropriately, and the district
also feels that positive but not excessive attention to appearance promotes personal
and school pride. o If there is some question as to the appropriateness of
certain apparel the student should wear something else. o Students are expected
to be appropriately dressed and groomed for school at all times. o Students
may not wear clothing that displays sexually explicit logos, designs or slogans.

to personal health or safety. Examples include, but are not limited to, excessively
