FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE
The Family and Consumer Science department will offer a
wider variety of classes during second semester. Students
in grades 6-12 will have opportunity to take classes in
the area of FACS.
Seniors in the quilting classes will be picking out fabrics
in the next couple of weeks for their quilt projects. Their
finished quilts will be on display this spring at the Honors
Fair. Be sure to stop by and see them.
Juniors in the Living Skills class will be spending a portion
of the third quarter in the area of communication and conflict
resolution skills. Skills will apply to both personal and
work areas. During fourth quarter students will be doing
career and post-secondary explorations to help them make
those all-important future decisions.
The Advanced Foods class will learn the basics of food
preparation. Units will include soups, meats, fish, poultry
and cheese. Students will learn the principles of preparation
and apply these principles to preparation of the foods.
The Special Food Topics class studies the foods of areas
of the United States in addition to other countries. Students
prepare foods from the country and learn a little of their
customs and geography.
FACS II students will study food topics including breads,
vegetables and food buying. They will spend time studying
nutrition and wellness, with the aid of a nutrition computer
program with evaluates their diet.
The semester will also include completing a sewing project
of pajama pants.
The Sixth and Seventh grade FACS classes introduce students
to the many areas of FACS. Topics include nutrition, foods,
sewing and childcare. Each group of students spends seven
weeks in the FACS areas.
