INFORMATION:

2020 has brought many disruptions to our lives, including youth sports. This has included the
unfortunate cancellation of the spring seasons as well as summer traveling leagues and camps.
As we continue to turn the dial toward a 'new normal' mode of life, Return-to-Play plans are being
developed for young athletes in Minnesota.

With these facts in mind, the PIZM Girls Soccer coaching staff is excited to develop plans for
voluntary summer workouts, guided by the Minnesota Department of Health, agreed upon by the
Hiawatha Valley League Conference member schools, and as outlined in the Pine Island Athletics
Beginning Return to Play Preparedness Plan.
Under current Covid-19 related guidelines, the program will initially be restricted to a total of
36 registered athletes. Here are other details as noted in the official Plan:
1) All players are required to register in advance. Players who are not registered for the program
will not be allowed to participate.
2) All players must check in prior to each workout and complete a brief questionnaire regarding
physical symptoms or potential exposure to Covid-19.
3) Players will be assigned to one of 4 'pods', which include a maximum of 9 players, guided by
one coach. Players will only work within their pod, and coaches will rotate between pods.
4) Players must observe appropriate social distancing (i.e. 6 feet apart).
5) Players are not required to wear masks (Coaches will wear masks when in close proximity).
6) Parents and caregivers are discouraged from attending practices to limit the number of individuals.
QUESTIONS:
Q: HOW DO I REGISTER?
A: A registration form will be sent in a separate email communication.
Q: Is the program open to 7th-8th graders who want to participate?
A: Not yet, though you are still encouraged to register if interested. Once Grade 9-12 interest is
determined, and/or as social restrictions ease, there may be additional opportunities for our
younger Wildcats :)
Q: Can I switch 'pods' to be with my friend?
A: No, current guidelines are designed to limit intermixing between groups.
Q: What happens if I have potential symptoms of Covid-19 like fever, cough, sore throat or shortness
of breath (or I've been exposed to someone with such symptoms)?
A: You should stay at home (or will be asked to return home)
Q: How do we play soccer while social distancing?
A: We won't at first, as soccer balls are not allowed until June 29. We will work on speed, agility and
conditioning. Once a ball is introduced, you will have to defend from a safe distance of 6 feet ;)
Q: Will there be a soccer season this fall? If so, when does it start?
A: We hope so! It is difficult to speculate now as people return to activities and the spread of Covid-19
is monitored. We expect to have a fall season and are planning so unless we learn otherwise.
Fall practices are currently scheduled to begin August 17.
