Coaching Staff

Head Varsity
Jim McNamara-This will be Coach McNamara's fourth season as the varsity head coach.  He is looking forward to his 23rd season coaching basketball in Pine Island, having coached at the youth, junior high and junior varsity level.  He also was the varsity assistant for seven years.  He and his wife Tonja have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.


Varsity Assistant
Jim Fall-This will be Coach Fall's second season as the varsity assistant coach, after having previously coached basketball and baseball for several years at the youth level.  He has spent the previous 24 seasons as a varsity basketball official, working area games out of the Rochester association.  He is very excited about the move to the coaching ranks and working with the fine players and coaching staff at Pine Island.  He and his wife Kim have two children.


Junior Varsity
Tyler Baker-This will be Coach Baker's 7th season coaching basketball and his second as the Panther JV coach. He has previously coached in Bemidji, Iowa and in Goodhue.  He also grew up in the HVL and played basketball at Byron High School.  Coach Baker and his wife Brittany have two sons.
 

C Team
Scott Nelson-Native of Kenyon graduating in 1980. Did undergraduate work at St Olaf College. Have had teaching/coaching stints in Delano, Spring Valley Byron and Pine Island totalling 30 years.  Was head boys basketball coach at Kingsland High School from 89-97. Got Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Winona State University. Married 24 years and have two children


8th Grade
Zeke Kokosinski-This will be Coach Kokosinski's first experience as a head coach.  He is originally from New Jersey where he grew up playing soccer and basketball. He played basketball in college in upstate New York and is currently attending RCTC for sports management.  Quoting Coach Kokosinski, "I'm excited to bring my knowledge of the game to my team and to prepare and develop them for the high school level."


7th Grade
Wyatt Nelson-This will be Coach Nelson's third season, second in Pine Island after coaching the C Team last year. He graduated from Byron in 2014. Currently going to school, working on a degree in Elementary Education.
