Hello and welcome to another school year! I hope you had a fun and relaxing summer vacation and are ready be back. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ms Thue and I am excited to be joining you at PI MS/HS as the ADSIS Student Success Counselor. ADSIS is the hard for me to remember acronym for Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instructional Services. What this means is simply extra support for students with challenges in the classroom or other areas that negatively affect their school success.
In my/your case, those areas are ones that come from social, emotional, or behavioral challenges that are getting in the way of you being the best you can be. Since these challenges look different for each and every one of you, there is no set class to attend or lessons to complete. Instead, we will work together to come up with goals and a plan of action. My hope is that this program is student led, which means you, the student, figuring out personal challenges and making choices about how to address them. This is not a program for “bad kids” or “crazy kids”. This is not Special Education or punishment for too many referrals, and I am definitely not a baby sitter, private detective, or drill sergeant. I am another support here to help you.
My background is working with students at-risk of not graduating from high school. These students helped me figure out what I really wanted to be when I grew up. After working with them for several years in Denver, CO I decided to pursue a Masters Degree in K-12 School Counseling. I finally graduated in 2007 and have been working as a school counselor since then. I even spent a short stint 3 years ago as a PI Panther when I was the long term substitute for the HS counselor. I feel very fortunate to be returning to such a fantastic district doing something I love. I am married to a very patient man and have two very impatient, but amazing, daughters who are 6 and 9 years old and go to school in Rochester. We have 3 unruly rescue dogs and a small petting zoo of frogs, fish, and as of two days ago, hamsters. I like to travel, hike, read, eat chocolate, and see live music whenever time and money allow.
My office is located on the HS side of the building on the 2nd floor, where Mrs. Kuss, MS Counselor, was last year. I’m directly across the hall from Mr. McPhail (rm 211) and next door to Mrs. Koster (rm 210). My hope is to meet each of you over the next two weeks during your study halls and electives but please feel free to stop by and say hello or ask questions anytime, I’m not used to such a quiet office. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you soon!
