Dear Pine Island Parents and Guardians,
Hello! I hope you and your family had a fun and relaxing summer vacation. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Brittany Thue and I am excited to be joining the 5-12 Pine Island team as the ADSIS Student Success Counselor. This new position is funded by a grant from the MN Dept. of Ed for schools to provide targeted services in the areas of academic and behavioral support . ADSIS is the hard for me to remember acronym for Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instructional Services. What I hope you and your student come to see it as is another caring adult in their lives supporting their journey in becoming happy, healthy, and successful adults.
I received a Masters Degree in K-12 School Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007. At that point, I had already been working for seven years with middle and high school students who were at risk of not graduating from high school so the transition to school counselor was a natural one. I’ve spent the last seven years working as a school counselor in South Dakota and MN. I even spent a short stint as a PI Panther when I was the long term substitute for the HS counselor three years ago and feel so fortunate to be returning to such a fantastic district doing something I love.
As the ADSIS Student Success Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of students through behavior interventions, emotional support, and improving interpersonal skills. I see this support as being custom made for each student dependant on their needs. One student may need scheduled weekly check-ins, while others may simply need a place to decompress on an as needed basis. I will be meeting with students individually and possibly in small groups during lunch, study halls and non-core classes, observing in classrooms, communicating with parents, and collaborating with teachers and staff. Much of what I do will be student driven by their individual goals, strengths and challenges.
I am here to help students achieve their goals and support their growth, but I can’t do it without you. You are a key piece to the puzzle and I welcome your questions, concerns, and any insight you might have to help me help your child. Please contact me via phone or email and we can set up a time to meet face to face as needed. I can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 356-3378.
Thanks so much and I am looking forward to a great year!
